Santa Barbara Wine Country, named Wine Enthusiast’s Wine Region of the Year for 2021 and recently honored with multiple wine scores over 90+ points, is bringing some of its acclaimed wines to Orange County for special Wine Tasting Pop-Ups. 

“The fall tasting events will feature a wide range of varietals from small production and highly sought-after wineries. Guests will learn the best wines to gift and pour for their guests this holiday season.”

Thursday, Nov. 17, 5 to 8pm at Wine Gallery in Laguna Beach – Enjoy tasting a variety of wines and light bites. Guests must be 21 or older. Tickets are $25, and can be purchased on Eventbrite. Wine Gallery is located at 1833 S. Coast Hwy., #110, in Laguna Beach.

Wednesday, Nov. 30, 5:30 to 8:30pm at Cucina Enoteca in Irvine – Enjoy a special evening of tasting award-winning wines from Santa Barbara Wine Country, paired with light bites. Guests must be 21 or older. The event is complimentary, but guests are required to RSVP through Eventbrite as space is limited. Cucina Enoteca is a modern California-inspired Italian kitchen meets charming bohemian eatery and retail wine shop. Cucina Enoteca is located in Irvine Spectrum Center at 532 Spectrum Center Dr., in Irvine.

Thursday, Dec. 8, 5 to 8pm at Parlour 17 in Costa Mesa – A variety of award-winning Santa Barbara wines will be showcased and served with light bites. Guests must be 21 or older. The event is complimentary, but guests are required to RSVP through Eventbrite as space is limited. Parlour 17 is a private event space located in Plaza Sereno at 234 E. 17th St., #117, in Costa Mesa.

Representing Santa Barbara Vintners (the organizer) is Winemaker Karen Steinwachs of Seagrape Wine Co, Santa Rita Hills. (Karen was previously the winemaker at Buttonwood Winery & Vineyard for 15 years.) Karen will be tasting a selection of Seagrape Wine Co. varietals at both the November 17th evening at Wine Gallery as well as on December 8th at Parlour 17 in Costa Mesa.

The association produces festivals; educational seminars and tastings; provides information to consumers, trade, and media; and advocates for the Santa Barbara County wine and grape industry.

“The World of Pinot Noir (WOPN,) the foremost event dedicated to the celebration of Pinot Noir, is returning to the Ritz-Carlton Bacara (in Santa Ynez) March 3-5, 2022 – in person, Zoom-free and featuring more than 200 premier Pinot Noir wineries from around the globe.”

“After going fully virtual in 2021, the upcoming in-person “reunion” is shaping up to be one the most exciting and delicious WOPN weekends in its 22-year history. And organizers, along with the Ritz-Carlton Bacara staff, are going to great lengths and initiating new protocols to ensure a safe and healthy experience for all guests.”

Buellton’s celebrated Chef and Winemaker Frank Ostini is the grill master at Hitching Post 2 Restaurant and the Co-Winemaker at Hartley-Ostini Hitching Post Wines (with Gray Hartley.) We’re now continuing talking Santa Barbara County wine and classic Santa Maria BBQ with Chef Frank Ostini.

“On the Central Coast of California BBQ has always meant grilling over an open fire of red oak, a style of cooking that is native to the area and goes back to the days of the Spanish Rancheros. By combining the old and the new, Hitching Post 2 has created an exciting cuisine with outstanding steaks, ribs and chicken, along with fresh fish and seafood and vegetarian options. A Reserve Tasting, priced at $20, includes five wines – Highliner Pinot Noir 2015; Perfect Set Pinot Noir 2015; Bien Nacido Pinot Noir 2015; Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir 2015; and Four Top 2012. The caveat of the Reserve Tasting will be its ever-changing menu featuring rare single-vineyard bottlings and special older vintages of Hitching Post.

“Hitching Post Wines Tasting Room would not be complete without the added flavor of Hitching Post 2’s Santa Maria Style BBQ food pairings to enjoy while tasting. Our resident wine expert, Kyle Meyer of Santa Ana’s Wine Exchange, artfully pulls the cork for us on this. Last week in Los Angeles was the eagerly anticipated annual tasting of the soon-to-be-released 2017 vintage organized by the Union Des Grands Crus de Bordeaux.

The Union is an affiliation of the best Bordeaux producers from all of the major Bordeaux winegrowing regions including Margaux, St Julien, Pauillac, St Estèphe, Listrac, Moulis, Haut-Médoc, Graves, Pessac-Léognan, Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Sauternes and Barsac! More than 60 châteaux attended and winemakers and owners poured over 100 wines from the exciting, soon-to-be-released 2017 vintage.

Kyle Meyer of Wine ExchangeOur resident wine expert Kyle Meyer of Santa Ana’s Wine Exchange joins us to talk about Bordeaux wines. The Union Des Grands Crus De Bordeaux was just in West Hollywood with a comprehensive tasting of the 2016 releases. Kyle’s assessment of the vintage is that it’s “one of the greatest.”

Bordeaux is the single most important wine region on the world so it’s taken very seriously. Contrary to popular belief there is good value to be had in the satellite appellations and not everything is crazy expensive.

This was the 14th edition of this Tasting in the United States. Kyle shares his professional insights with us and also explains how a Sommelier or Wine Merchant navigates such a vast tasting. It’s honestly real, purposeful work…Cheers!

MJ’s passion for entertaining, food and wine led her to leave her secure corporate job of 15 years to pursue her dream job of reinvigorating The Wine Artist which she acquired in late 2009.
